Our story began in 1954, when Harold S. Hollen opened his funeral home and dedicated himself to serving families in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Known for his commitment to the community and the families who entrusted him with their loved ones, Mr. Hollen established a tradition of personal, compassionate service that continues today.

In the early 1970s, Harold welcomed a young, hardworking funeral director named Thomas J. Fluehr to his staff. Tom was already deeply connected to funeral service, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, John F. Fluehr, Sr., who opened his first Philadelphia funeral home in 1898. Harold and Tom quickly developed a strong relationship built upon shared professional standards, personal values, and a commitment to caring for families.

In 1973, Harold chose Tom to carry on the funeral home's legacy. On August 1 of that year, Tom purchased the business and began the next chapter in its history.

As the communities of Philadelphia continued to grow and change, so did the funeral home. In 1978, Tom opened a second location in Northeast Philadelphia. The location was carefully selected to provide convenient access for families throughout Northeast Philadelphia and the surrounding communities while remaining close to several major roadways.

Today, another generation is carrying that tradition forward.

T.J. Fluehr recently purchased the funeral home from his father, continuing a family legacy in funeral service that now spans generations. With the transition in ownership, the former Hollen Funeral Home has been rebranded as T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home & Cremation Services—a new name that reflects both the Fluehr family's longstanding commitment to funeral service and T.J.'s vision for the future.

While the name has changed, the values behind it have not.

T.J. and the entire staff remain committed to providing the personal attention, compassion, and professional guidance families have come to expect. We understand that no two families are alike, which is why we believe funeral and cremation services should never take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our role begins by listening. We take the time to understand your family's wishes, traditions, customs, faith, and individual needs. From there, we provide thoughtful guidance and help create a funeral, cremation, memorial, or celebration of life that is meaningful to you and appropriately honors the life of your loved one.

From Harold Hollen's original commitment to his Philadelphia community in 1954, to Tom Fluehr's leadership beginning in 1973, and now to T.J. Fluehr carrying the family tradition into a new generation, our purpose remains the same: to be there for families when they need us most.
