William J. Jones , of Philadelphia, age 81 passed away Oct. 12, 2010. William was a longtime employee of the Reading and Conrail RailRoad. He worked for 46 years without an injury. Although he was a dedicated worker his true passion was his involvement in area sports programs. For more than 40 years, he ran the Northeast Mens Softball League. He was the umpire-in-chief for the American Softball Association. For more than a decade, he was the president of the Far Northeast Athletic Association. For many years William was the umpire assigner for the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. In 1971, he received a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives recognizing his outstanding achievements and involvement with youth sports in Pennsylvania. He was a tireless supporter and endless promoter of youth sports in Philadelphia He was the Husband of the late Frances (nee Beyreitz). Beloved father of Frances (Thomas) Ruch, William (Tammy), Michael (Christine) and Timothy (Victoria).Devoted grandfather of Aimee, Bill, Michael, Kate, Christopher, Kristina, Jessica, Jennifer, Brian, Timothy, Danielle, Joseph, Michael, Christopher and the late Thomas. Cherished great-grandfather of Dominic, Andrew and Joey.
