Marion Doris (Ecker) Heidt Obituary (1928 - 2020)

Marion Heidt (nee Ecker) wife of the late Frank Heidt, sister of the late Emma Ecker. Loving mother to Doreen Hazard (Oliver) and Karen Longo (John). Grandmother to Nicole Regan (Matt) and John Longo (Kate). Loving great grandmother to Ryan, Harper, Daniel and John. Marion always talked fondly about growing up in Philadelphia. Growing up in a family that traces their roots back in Philadelphia over two hundred years, she was a direct descendant of Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence. She loved going to watch the A's at Shibe Park with her family when she was a little girl. Her love for baseball grew into a love for the Phillies which she would continue to watch into her 90s. She would always talk of how wonderful her mother was and how much she missed her as she was older. Marion and her sister Emma were very close throughout their life. She was her sister's caretaker when Emma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Marion and her husband Frank built a beach house in Long Beach Island in their younger years and loved to go dancing together. Marion worked at J.C. Penney in her later years and ruled the dressing room with an iron fist. She had no problem handling herself and speaking her mind to just about anyone that would cross her. She was quite sassy when she wanted to be. Marion loved going to the casinos and playing the slots. She would often go to Atlantic City with her daughter Doreen and Doreen's husband Oliver (Skip). Her family was able to take her to one final casino hooray at Parx. She said it was one of the best days of her life. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And she always had a few dollars to give to the little ones when they visited. She had a special bond with each one of them. Marion had so much style. She loved to put on her makeup, get her hair done and wear her clothes she bought when working at JCPenney. Her signature look for most of her life was jet black hair done you just perfectly. She would often show up to holiday celebrations wearing an entire outfit of red leather. Her confidence was evident. She looked like Elizabeth Taylor and wore it as a badge of honor. Her face would light up whenever anyone told her so. Her last years were hard on her with health. But she was thankful that she was never in pain and was proud that she had made it into her 90s.
