John Cheatham

John D. Cheatham, age 74, of Philadelphia, passed away on October 17, 2026.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, John grew up in Frankford. After High School, he served his country proudly in the U.S Army. While serving during the Vietnam War, John was stationed in Korea. During this time in Korea, John developed an interest in martial arts. Upon returning home after his military service, he became a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Karate and competed in kickboxing. In 1976, John became a Police Officer with the City of Philadelphia, and retired in 1997.

Loving father of John D. Dorsey, Kenny Cheatham and the late Robert Cheatham. Beloved grandfather of Jalen Cheatham, Justin Cheatham, and John P. Dorsey. Dear brother of Larry Cheatham, Donna (Robert) Colbert, Barbara Cheatham, Paul (Karen) Cheatham, the late Thomas (Tina) Cheatham, the late Deborah Cheatham, the late Robert Cheatham and the late Mark Cheatham. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives, friends and members of FOP Lodge #5 are invited to his Graveside Service with Military Honors on Thursday October 29, 2026 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd. Newtown, PA 18940. His service will begin promptly at 9 AM. Please arrive by 8:45 AM.
