Florence "Pet" Edna McDevitt (nee Dalessandro) was born in Philadelphia on August 1,1929 and passed away suddenly from the Covid-19 virus on April 15, 2020 at the age of 90. Pet was the wife of James J. McDevitt, Sr. (deceased) for 40 years and together they raised four children in Fox Chase, Juniata Park and Port Richmond. Pet enjoyed going to Mass every day, attending Miraculous Medal Novena at the Miraculous Medal Shrine, cooking dinner for her family and loving her grandchildren. Pet had a terrific sense of humor and she was fun to be around. She enjoyed having a good time and always made sure those around her did as well. Pet was well known for her famous "Thursday Night Spaghetti Dinners". Each week she would make big pots of Spaghetti and Meatballs, "enough to feed an army", she would say. Everyone and anyone were welcome There was never enough space for everyone to sit and eat, but always plenty of food and laughter. Family and friends would sit on steps, eat on the floor, eat in shifts; people coming in and out and eating on the fly; all packed into a tiny Port Richmond row home. Thursday nights were very special and full of Pet's love. Everyone that knew Pet, looked at her as a mother figure. She communicated love by the way she lived her life.
